General information about Lipsi In the Northern region of the Dodecanese group of islands, about ten nautical miles East of Patmos, a similar distance North of Leros and 180 nautical miles South-East of Athens, lies a group of small islands, the Lipsoi. These are concentrated around a larger island named Lipso or Lipsi, the only one in the group that is inhabited. Lipsi has an area of 16 square km and a coastline of 35 km. Here you’ll find beautiful sandy beaches and a crystal clear sea. In the small, solitary village spread around the safe, natural harbour, you’ll find coffee shops, cafeterias, ouzeries and tavernas. The permanent population of Lipsi is about 670 residents mainly concentrated in the village. They are chiefly occupied with farming, fishing and tourism. The land to the south of the village is undulating and fertile, to the North it is mountainous, the highest point being about 280m above sea level. For those who don’t have their own transport, it is possible to walk about the island but there are also municipal buses, two taxies and motor scooters or bicycles for hire.
